Egy grandiózus életmű - Bradbury
91 éves az 1920. augusztus 22-én született amerikai író. Raymond Douglas Bradbury. Tizenegy évesen kezd írni. Tanulmányait a középiskola befejezésével lezárja, attól kezdve saját magát képezi, leginkább könyvtárlátogatással, szigorúan azokban a témakörökben, amelyek őt érdekelték.
Kezdjük azzal, hogy éveken át kevertem a két Bradburyt. Malcolmot és Ray-t. Előbb Malcolm ragadt be az agyba. Modern könyvtár, 1974, Embert enni nem való, vékony, kék könyvecske az ismert sorozatborítóval, fordító Hernádi Gyula, nyelvi lektor: Petri György, érdekes, nemdebár?
Ray Bradbury másodszorra. Szerencsére nem folytattam vérre menő vitákat a sci-fi rajongóival, rosszul jártam volna, akik a vallásos áhítattal csüggtek a sci-fin, akik zarándoklatként kezelték egy-egy Galaktika szám megjelentét, zarándokoltak újságosbódétól újságosbódéig, hátha sikerül szert tenniük az aktuális lapszámra. A scifi-rajongó valóban úgy gondolja, a huszadik század második felén az olvasó ember vallása a sci-fi. Mert szerintük a vallás és az istenfélés, az ismeretlentől való félelem, ugyanakkor az ismeretlennel kapcsolatban érzett vonzalom és kíváncsiság. Egyidejűsége párhuzamot von a hit és a sci-fi közé. A sci-fi a jövőt, az ismeretlent, a túlvilágot kutatja.
A jó író a sci-fiben is jó író. Nálam Stanislaw Lem (regényfolyamával) kezdődött, Asimov (Alapítvány-trilógiájával) folytatódott, és Ray Bradbury a vége. Bradbury után nem volt új felfedezésem. Vélhetőleg nem lesz a maradék időben.
Pedig lehetne. A sci-fi, köztük persze Bradbury is, a hagyományos írókhoz hasonlóan, emberről, emberi társadalmakról, az emberben meglévő, a társadalmakban születő jó és a gonosz harcáról ír. A társadalomkritika akkor is társadalomkritika, ha ezer évvel későbbi jelenű a "fennálló, regnáló" hatalom kritikája. A társadalom ismerete – természetesen – a jelen állapotokat tükrözi: fegyverkezés, rasszizmus, kirekesztés, holocaust, gonosz szövetségek, népirtás, és ami belefér, de most nem jut több eszembe. Az író honnan máshonnan szerezhetné az emberi természetről az ismereteket, mint a jelenből?
Bradbury olvasásához el kell engedni magunkat. Elfelejteni, hogy tudományos fantasztikus irodalmat olvasunk. Egyszer. Máskor elsodor. A tetovált ember fantasztikus novellái a novellairodalom mesterművei. Leginkább abból a műfajból lehetséges szakmai fogásokat lopni, amelyben semmiképpen nem akarunk írni. Többnyire rövidebb írásokat tartalmazó kötetei fogtak rajtam. A Marsbéli Krónikák című kötetében olvasható tíz elbeszélés + egy nagyinterjú az írás titkairól, az írás mibenlétéről – minden kezdő író kézikönyve lehet. A Krónikák grandiózus. Átgondolt világ Bradburyé, átgondolt szerkezet.
A következőket írja a munkával (írással) és a múzsával (szorgalommal) kapcsolatos kisesszéjében. Érdemes megszívelni:
"Nem könnyű. Senki sem volt képes rá folyamatosan. Azok, akik keményen próbálkoznak, elijesztik a rengetegbe. Akik hátat fordítva, fütyörészve eloldalognak, egyszer csak hallják, halkan lépdel utánuk, mert a múzsát vonzza a gondosan kimódolt közöny.
A neve mostanra szinte teljesen eltűnt nyelvünkből. Amikor halljuk, elmosolyodunk, karcsú görög istennő ötlik az eszünkbe, aki páfrányokba öltözik, hárfát penget, vagy az izzadó írnok homlokát törölgeti.
A múzsa a legijedősebb szűzlány. Összerezzen, amikor hangot hall, belesápad, ha kérdéseket intézel hozzá, pördül, és már ott sincs, ha kézzel érinted ruháját.
Mi baja?, kérdezhetnéd. Miért remeg, ha ránéznek? Honnan jön és hová megy? Hogyan tudjuk rávenni, hogy hosszabb időre is meglátogasson? Milyen hőmérsékletet kedvel? A hangos vagy halk beszédet szereti? Hol veszel számára ennivalót, mennyit és milyet; mikor etesd?"
Ez az. Ez a kérdés többnyire. Hogyan tartsd meg, ha menni akar.
A 80. születésnapján tartott ünnepségen, 2000 augusztusában a következőket mondta: „A legnagyobb öröm az életemben, mikor felébredve rohanok az írógéphez, mert valamilyen új ötletem támadt. Az érzés még mindig ugyanolyan, mint mikor 12 voltam. Végtére is, még mindig itt vagyok nyolcvanévesen, és nem érzek semmi különbséget, tele vagyok vidámsággal és örülök a hosszú életemnek, ami nekem adatott. Remek ötleteim vannak az elkövetkezendő 10-20 évre, remélem, velem tartanak!”
